Alpine Springs' Frequently Asked Questions


·What days are we open?

  Alpine Springs is open 364 days of the year and closed only on Christmas Day. The hot pools, day spa and café are open year round, with ice skating beginning early to mid April and finishing in mid to late September. The snow tubing park is open early June and closes around early September (weather permitting). The Summer Tube opens in October and runs through to June. The inline and roller skating starts late September and runs through to the end of March.

·Where are the Hot Pools, Ice Rink, Tubing Park, Day Spa and Cafe? 

  The entire above are located at the Alpine Springs complex at 6 Lake Side Drive, Lake Tekapo. This is off state highway 8, past the camping ground.

·Car parking?

  Alpine Springs has plenty of car and bus parking on site at 6 Lakeside Drive.

·Can I hire swimsuits or shorts? 

  Yes, Alpine Springs offers swimwear for men, woman and children for hire. We also have a range of Spank swimwear and Huggies aqua nappies for children under three years of age for retail sale.

·Can we hire ice skates, roller skates and inline skates?

  Yes, Alpine Springs have a full range of ice skates, inline and roller skates for hire.

·Can we use our own ice skates, roller skates and inline skates?

  Yes, the price of entry will be discounted when using your own skates.

·Can we go on the skating rink without wearing skates?

  No, skates must be worn on the rink. Helmets are compulsory for summer skating.

·Can we use our own toboggans or tubes on the snow tubing park?

  No, Alpine Springs have particular tubes for hire. No private tubes or toboggans can be used.

·How long can we go tubing for?

  The ticket for the tubing park lasts for 1 hour once you have your tube.

·What type of footwear is suitable for the tubing park?

  Sand shoes or shoes that are warm and water proof are best. Hard boots, such as ski boots are forbidden.

·Can we buy hats, socks and gloves at Alpine Springs?

  Yes, these are available at our main reception.

·Are towels included in entry to hot pools? 

  No, towels are not included but are available for hire.

·Do I need to book to use the Hot Pools? 

  No, there is no need to book for the hot pools, however, we do recommend that groups of 20+ book in advance.

·Do you have private hot pools?

  No, not at present. Private pools are part of our further development plan.

·Do you have a cold pool?

  At present our coolest pool is Ohau which runs at around 33 degrees Celsius over summer and 36 degrees Celsius over winter. We do not have a dedicated cool pool at this point in time, although a cold pool is part of our development plan.

·Can I wear Jewellery in the pools?

  Our pool water is spring water with chlorine and should not affect yourjewellery. However we recommend that all jewellery is not worn in the pools.

·Do I need to book the ice rink or snow tubing park?

  Bookings for the ice skating rink are not necessary unless you are a group larger than 20 people. Bookings for the snow tubing park are advised as we have a limited amount of tubes available. The skating rink may be booked out by a group at times, so please inquire in advance to avoid disappointment.  

·Do we need to make a booking for treatments i.e. facial, massage and/or body treatment?

  Yes, all day spa bookings require a booking and credit card number. Cancellations must be received six hours prior to a treatment or a 50% charge of the treatment will be incurred.

·Can I buy gift vouchers?

  Yes, please enquire at info@alpinesprings.co.nz  or at reception (0800 23538283)

·Does the admission include access to all the pools and how long can I stay?

  Admission to the hot pools includes entry into the three main pools. You can stay in the pools all day with a standard pool admission. We also offer an overnight and same day return pass as well. Please enquire by telephone (0800 23538283) or email info@alpinesprings.co.nz

·Can I do both ice skating and the hot pools in the same visit?

  Yes, Alpine Springs offers many different combo packages that enable you to do all of our activities in one visit if desired.

·Is there a required skill level for either ice skating or snow tubing?

  No, Alpine Springs have skating frames to assist beginner skaters and also have skate instructors available upon request (bookings essential). Alpine Springs provide protective helmets for skaters free of charge. It is highly recommended that beginner or intermediate skaters wear a helmet. Risk guards and knee guards are also available for inline and roller skating over summer. No experience is required for snow tubing, just an appetite for fun!!

·Can we use the hot pools and then return the same day to use them again?

  Yes, Alpine Springs offers a same day return pass to the hot pools only. (Not the ice rink or snow park).

·What age is a child? What age is a senior?

  A child is aged three to twelve, and a senior is sixty and over. Youth are 13 - 18.

·Sorry we don't have a separate price for students. 

·Are there secure lockers at the Alpine Springs?

  Yes, we have lockers that require a $2 coin for one lock. We also have free lockers pool side that are in view of pools.

·Are there changing rooms? Do the changing rooms have showers?

  Yes, we have both separate men’s and women’s change rooms with showers and toilets for everyone including disabled showers and toilets.

·Do you have a family changing room?

  Yes, there is a secure family changing room.

·Is there wheelchair access to the pools and changing rooms?

  Yes, there is wheelchair access to the change rooms and their facilities. There is also wheelchair access into our middle pool, Ohau, however our lifeguards can assist upon request in helping disabled people utilize all of our pools. Alpine Springs also provides an aqua wheel chair free of charge.

·Are there BBQ's available for us to use in the complex?

  No, there are no public barbeques available for public use at Alpine Springs.

·Can I take my own food or picnic into the Hot Pools?

  Your own food can be consumed on the ice rink side of the main building, outside. We do not allow food to be consumed in and around the hot pools, in our café or on the ice rink or snow tubing park.

·I'm pregnant, is it safe to use the pools?

 Alpine Springs advise pregnant women to not enter any pools that are over 37.5 degrees Celsius (body temperature), and note that pregnant women enter the hot pools entirely at their own risk.

·What temperature are the pools?

  Our three outdoor hot pools range in temperature from 40 to 36 degrees over winter and 39 to 33 degrees over summer.

·What is the temperature of the Sauna?

  The Sauna operates at approximately 80 degrees Celsius

·What is the temperature of the plunge pool?

  Between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius.

·Are the hot pools thermal spring water?

  No, the hot pools at Alpine Springs utilize cold glacial spring water taken from our site which is then heated from the byproduct heat from our refrigeration plant. This is very efficient heating. For every kilowatt of power we use to run the refrigeration plant, we produce three to four kilowatts of free heat energy to heat the pools.

·Do you add any other chemicals such as chlorine into the pools?

  Yes, we add chlorine to our water by way of a very clean and safe Wapotech salt system, making for unparalleled water quality.

·Will the hot water pools discolour my swimsuit?

  No, your swimwear will not be discoloured from our pool water.

·Can I safely put my head underwater in the hot pools?

  Yes, our pool water is not sulphuric and is treated with the latest natural salt chlorine system, Wapotech, providing superior water quality.

·How do I get to the Alpine Springs if I don’t have a car?

    Alpine Springs is a fifteen minute walk from the centre of Lake Tekapo. Alpine Springs offer hotel pick ups for up to seven persons upon request. Please contact us on info@alpinesprings.co.nz or phone 0800 23538283.

·Do you offer any packages?

  Aside from our combo deals, we offer two packages at present for our day spa and three packages with accommodation at Peppers Bluewater. We can also tailor packages to meet individuals needs. 

·Other Activities in Alpine Springs 

  Other activities at Alpine Springs include Ice Skating from Early April until late September, Snow Tubing from mid June until early September (weather permitting), Summer Tubing from October to June, roller and inline skating from October through March, and of course day spa indulgence for beauty and massage treatments.

·Accommodation

·Distance from Christchurch, Timaru and Quenstown.
 

  From Christchurch, 222 km or two and a half hours driving. From Timaru, 90 kilometers or one hour driving. From Queenstown, 250 kilometers or two hours and fourty five minutes driving.

·Banking Facilities

  Alpine Springs do not offer any banking services, but do have facilities for all major credit cards excluding American Express.



·Shuttle Transportation
Alpine Springs offers a free shuttle service to and from the resort from set accommodation providers within Tekapo.
